Fiemme spruce tops

The selection of our wood for violin making
starts in the forests of the Fiemme Valley

The choice of the logs is carried out among spruces growing in suitable areas and at ideal altitudes, in late autumn in the waning moon period.

It is not always an easy task to pursue this traditional process due to the cutting down and the cleaning of trees planned by the forest authority. Nevertheless, our experienced staff follows this method with the maximum commitment, assuring an excellent sound efficiency.
The logs piled on the forest sides after the winter time are transported to a small sawmill, where they are quarter sawn under our supervision and specific instructions.

The quarters are then carried to the factory, where they are sawn in perfect radial sections. After rejecting the defective parts, the wood is piled on the timber yards for a long natural seasoning, normally between 4 and 5 years. The tops are then processed and checked piece–by–piece, selected and branded according to the quality grade and the seasoning year. This is a practical method to make the choice easier.
